    With the Synchronous Modem Eliminator-RS-422/RS-449, you can establish communications between two synchronous devices (terminals, CPUs, etc.) at greater distances—without having to buy a modem or line driver.

    Configuration is easy. Just set the SME’s internal straps (jumpers) and switches. Two options are configured with DIP switches: clock source and data rate. The SME can either provide internal clocking or use an external source, and it can be set to use a variety of data rates up to 1.344 Mbps. And, in addition to the DIP switches, the SME features other straps for customizing its interface leads.

    Once you configure the SME, installation is simple. Simply run cable from the devices to its rear-panel connectors, then plug it in.
